What is EXIT® Concentrate Rodenticide? |
| |
EXIT® Concentrate Rodenticide is a new non-toxic Rodenticide
recently approved by the Pest Management Regulatory Agency
(PMRA) for the control of Richardson's Ground Squirrels in
Canada. EXIT is a concentrate designed to be mixed with water
to form a field solution.

|
How is EXIT® Concentrate Rodenticide used? |
| |
EXIT®
Concentrate Rodenticide is mixed at a ratio of 4 liters of concentrate
to 96 litres of water to form the "field solution".
The field solution is pumped through an aspirating nozzle to
produce EXIT foam. The EXIT foam is directed into the burrow
through a perforated cone and completely fills the ground squirrel
burrow. All ground squirrels in the burrow are treated. |
|

|
How does it work? |
| |
The
EXIT foam completely fills the ground squirrel burrow. The ground
squirrel breathes in the EXIT foam and becomes unconscious within
2 minutes. In most cases, ground squirrels in the burrow are
asphyxiated in approximately 3 minutes from the time of application.

|
How effective is EXIT? |
| |
The testing
required during the registration process showed that EXIT is
95 - 100% effective when applied correctly. Our experience has
shown that when active burrows are identified and treated, the
majority of the ground squirrels in the burrows die. There may
be cases where a treated ground squirrel escapes the burrow.
Usually they will enter another burrow where they can be re-treated. |
|
5
|
Is it hazardous? |
| |
EXIT®
Concentrate Rodenticide is non-toxic and non-hazardous when
used as directed. There are no hazardous or toxic substances
in EXIT® Concentrate Rodenticide. The EXIT foam biodegrades
quickly and has no long-term residual effects. |
|
6
|
How does it affect the environment? |
| |
The
majority of the EXIT foam produced is contained within the ground
squirrel burrow system and rapidly biodegrades. Any EXIT foam
on the surface disappears rapidly and gets biodegraded. The
Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA) carefully examined
EXIT® Concentrate Rodenticide and concluded that no environmental
concerns exist regarding the use of EXIT® Concentrate Rodenticide
when used as directed. |
|

|
Is the use of EXIT labor intensive? |
| |
The
average Richardson's ground squirrel burrow requires 10-20 seconds
to treat. Where older, established colonies are being treated,
the burrows may be larger and require more time and foam to
treat. It is less labor intensive than trapping or placing baits
properly at the opening of every burrow. The most effective
way to treat an area is to identify the main colony and treat
all active burrows with EXIT. Then from the main colony, expand
the treatment area outward until the entire area has been treated.
Treated areas will only require periodic maintenance treatments
to prevent re-invasion.

|
Will EXIT harm other species? |
| |
Yes, it may
harm other species if they are present in a burrow being treated.
Burrows must be inspected prior to treatment to ensure that
they are inhabited by only Richardson's ground squirrels and
no other species. |
|

|
Is EXIT safe to use in my yard or around my house? |
| |
Yes.
Application of the product is limited to active burrows. The
EXIT® foam is contained within the burrow and any residual will
rapidly disappear. |
|
10
|
What would happen if my dog or another predator comes in
contact with a treated Richardson's ground squirrel? |
| |
EXIT poses
no danger to any predators through secondary poisoning or other
harmful effects. All of the treated ground squirrels will die
in the burrow. If by any chance a ground squirrel escapes, it
poses no danger to any predators. There is no secondary poisoning
or other harmful effects when using EXIT. |

|
Is EXIT application equipment available? |
| |
Yes.
Complete application kits and all the components used in the
kit are available from EXIT Products Canada. |
|
12
|
How do I clean my EXIT application equipment? |
| |
Simply flush
water through the system to clean EXIT application equipment.
The residual water can be disposed of as directed on the label,
or may be used to mix with EXIT® Concentrate Rodenticide
to make additional field solution. |
